‘At Dyson’s, it’s all about the Wine!’

42 years ago at the start of 1976, from bare earth, with a strong back, vision, passion and determination Dyson Wines was born.

Our carefully selected vines were planted by hand with a shovel, and watered using an old tractor drawn water cart. Minimal sprays were used, copper and sulphur only and we are still using the same today to protect our precious vines from mildews etc. There were 10,000 vines back then and we worked tirelessly to grow them. Three years on our first grapes were ready to harvest and from this harvest we created our first vintage in a very small shed. Since then we have grown into a winery that will handle up to 50 tonne per vintage.

We still use the same techniques, hand pruning and picking into buckets, immediately cooling the fruit to 8 degrees celsius in our cool rooms before crushing. Fine grained 220 litre French oak barriques age our wine which we bottle on site in our temperature controlled bottling hall where we cork and label the bottles. We strongly believe in using cork and that will never change.

Our wine styles have changed slightly over the years , all for the better. We believe that with over 40 years of winemaking we have gained a lot of knowledge and an understanding of the vine and wine and we know we are still learning.

Dyson Wines Vineyard is located just 2.5kms to the east of the Gulf of St Vincent and is caressed by the fresh cooling sea breezes particularly at night, a perfect environment for the production of high quality grapes that go into our rich varietal handmade wines, capturing the spiritual essence of this wonder-filled region.

Both Colleen and myself believe we are in a wonderful position to supply you with quality wines, but don’t take our word for it, try for yourself by visiting our cellar door where we can share our passion and knowledge over a glass of our finest. Our wines are only sold at our cellar door and a few selected local restaurants.
